ABOUT ENGLEMERE DFAS

Englemere DFAS is an evening society, meeting at St George’s School, Ascot on the second Tuesday of each month.   We currently have about 180 members drawn from a wide area in and around Ascot and, thanks to our new, larger venue at St. George’s, we currently have a short waiting list.   To learn about membership of our society, please click on the Membership botton.

Doors open at 7.00pm and lectures begin at 7.45pm, prior to which refreshments are available and  there is the opportunity to meet and socialise with other members, book places on visits, tours, social events, etc.   Click on the Venue button for a map and directions to St. George’s School.   There is ample parking space in the school car park. We offer an annual programme of 10 monthly lectures [there are no lectures in August or December]. Lecturers, drawn from the NADFAS Directory of lecturers, are all experts in their field and combine a high level of expertise with an equal measure of enthusiasm.  Lectures are illustrated, of approximately one hour’s duration and followed by an opportunity to ask questions. In drawing up our lecture programme, we give a wide interpretation to “decorative and fine arts.”

Throughout each year we organise a series of guided visits to stately homes, gardens, galleries, museums, exhibitions, etc.    We also organise tours in the UK and overseas.    In addition there are Study Days - sometimes in association with neighbouring NADFAS societies - which provide an opportunity to consider a subject in more detail.   Our Social Events programme centres around our Summer Barbeque and Christmas Party.   Click on the relevant bottons to see our programme of lectures [Lectures botton], visits, tours, study days and social events [Visits button].

We have a keen and enthusiastic Church Recording group which has completed a full record of St. Michael and All Angels Church, Sunninghill.  Our Church Recording team is currently assisting Windlebook DFAS with the recording of St. Lawrence Church in Chobham.   Click on the Church Recording button for further information.

We are firm supporters of the NADFAS Young Arts programme and sponsor art workshops in local schools.
